Happy Tuesday Wholetonians!

(Be sure to read all the way to the end of this email to learn about a special flash sale going on with 31% off everything Wholeness!)

Today we’re going to talk about “Heart.” I don’t mean the 4-chambered organ that pumps blood throughout your body. Rather, I’m talking about something deeper, more profound. When I talk about Heart, I’m talking about that extra special drive, determination and tenacity that God gave humans to overcome the challenges life throws at us. The Bible addresses it in several places, including Galatians 6:9 where we are instructed “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

And of course, one of the most popular Bible verses among Christians, shared in times of struggle to motivate and lift one another up is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Both of these verses speak to Heart. I want you to know today that YOU have heart.  YOU have the power, through Christ to overcome any adversity you are dealing with. To illustrate, I want to share what I witnessed these past few weeks watching a little football team out of the Midwest named the Kansas City Chiefs.

Whether or not you are a sports fan, by now you probably know that the Super Bowl was just held on Sunday. I personally haven’t watched NFL football in a couple of years because of the political protests, the abuse scandals, etc.. Frankly, I’ve just been disgusted. But as a seeker of light, I am called to find the good (and the God) in every situation I can.

Thus is my mission here…

At Wholetones, our entire team was rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs. Some have posted on Facebook and written in to ask why we decided to “take sides” or even ask “what does a football game have to do with Wholetones and with frequency?” So I’d like to take this time to address it:

#1  Wholetones is a “virtual company,” which means we don’t have an office building where everyone goes to work.  Each and every Wholetones team member works from home, which allows them to earn a living without having to leave their families for 9 or 10 hours a day, commuting and working in an office. So our team has folks in Florida, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and FOUR of our team members live in the Kansas City area. Because we love our co-workers like family, we of course had to root for the Kansas City Chiefs.

#2  The Chiefs are a “Family” team that stays above the seedier issues that afflict many NFL teams. Their players are positive, respectful, and they cut law-breaking “thugs” from their team immediately. Their fans are known throughout the league as being the most friendly, welcoming fans in the country. (And the loudest, with the world record loudest NFL stadium.)

#3  As a team, the Chiefs aren’t afraid to share the Good News with the world. In his AFC victory speech, team owner Clark Hunt (an outspoken Christian) said to the entire world “I want to thank the Lord for blessing us with this opportunity.  The glory belongs to Him!” Punter Dustin Colquitt says of his public displays of his faith: “He always finds a way to put people, His people, in situations where He can spread His Word and spread His Kingdom.” And Superbowl MVP Patrick Mahomes II has been clear to everyone that he is where he is because of God’s blessings, and in case you missed it, upon running on to the field after being introduced at the Super Bowl, he went immediately to the sidelines, knelt down and PRAYED. (And he STOOD for the National Anthem, but that’s another topic). The Chiefs’ roster is full of Christian players, coaches and management. The team even has a Bible study on Monday nights, a chapel service on Saturday nights and prays AS A TEAM before every game.

#4  A lesson for us all…the Chiefs have HEART. Let’s break down the last three games they played. In the AFC West playoff game against the Houston Texans, the Chiefs were down 24-0 early in the second quarter. 24 to Zero! No team has EVER come back from a 24 point deficit in a playoff game. But the Chiefs never gave up. Quarterback Pat Mahomes stayed calm and rallied his team on the sidelines.  “It’s not over. We’ve got this. I KNOW we can do this.” he is quoted as saying. And he was right. In the second quarter, the Chiefs scored a record-breaking 4 touchdowns, eventually winning the game 51 to 31. You read the right. They went from being down by 24 points, and came back to score 51 points to win the game by 20!

That’s HEART.

The very next game, against the Tennessee Titans, (the beloved home team of many of my Nashville friends and family) the Chiefs again found themselves against the wall, down 17 to 7 in the second quarter. Again, the Chiefs never gave up, and came back to win 24 to 35.

Finally, the big game…the Super Bowl. After a lackluster first three quarters of the game, the Chiefs were down by 10 points, with a score of 10 to 20 in favor of San Francisco 49ers’. By the middle of the 4th quarter many were already calling the game finished with the Chiefs on the losing side.  The announcers were making dire predictions, and the 49ers were posing for pictures in the end zone as if the game was already over. But with 6:13 minutes left, the Heart of the team took over, and the Chiefs rallied to score not one, not two, but THREE touchdowns, closing the game with a score of 20-31 in a stunning comeback to take the victory. HEART.

These examples of “heart” taken from the world are just simple reminders from the Word.

Yes, we CAN do all things through Christ. Don’t lose heart.

Yes, we CAN reap a harvest for Christ, but we can’t give up.

Oh, and I believe HEART has a frequency. Some people emit the HEART frequency almost as powerful as a radio broadcast. You know the type; just by being around them, they make you want to be a better person. They make you want to stand up for Christ.  They make you want to change the world. Are you this type of person? It’s OK if you aren’t. But seek someone who is, and spend your time with them. Life is too short to bathe in the frequency of negative people. Find someone with HEART to spend your time with, and the frequency of HEART will eventually seep into you.

Be Whole,
Michael S. Tyrrell
